THURSDAY JULY, 18 - 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm

History of the Salem With Trials - Presenter: Charles Spratley

19 will be hanged. One will be pressed to death. All in the name of religious fervor and paranoia. In the small town known as Salem village, once the first accusation was spoken, no one was safe. From the first finger pointing to the final snapping of the rope noose, we will explore the history of this dark moment in America. We will even delve into the outside forces that may have brought upon this atrocity. This is not a lecture for the meek.

THURSDAY JULY, 25 - 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm

Voodoo and Hoodoo - Presenter: Charles Spratley

From the plains of Africa through the Southern parts of the United States and the Caribbean, Voodoo and its not-so-distant cousin Hoodoo are an interesting part of culture lightly glanced over by the masses. But to the believer and practitioner, it’s a revered religion. Primal in its practice, pulling its influences from indigenous religions and combining it with Catholicism and superstition. We will also take a look at Santeria, the Spanish influences upon the tradition. It’s a night given to the Loas

THURSDAY AUGUST, 8 - 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm

Jinn: Stories of the Fire Spirits - Presenter: Charles Spratley

A story that goes back to creation. Jinn. Genie. They go by many names. The Qur’an speaks of their creation alongside men, made of smokeless fire. Occult texts says that Solomon used them to help build the temple in Jerusalem.  They are protectors of hidden treasures and wanderers of the desert and abandoned ruins. Much more than a legend from 1001 Nights or a blue Disney buffoon, the Jinn are a serious part of culture in the Middle East and are very real to the believer…and not to be taken lightly. We will discuss the origin and stories of these mysterious creatures of the sands.
